The rich cultural heritage found in the area becomes apparent through the many dedicated monuments, battlefields, art galleries, and local people who are always willing to share a story. The beauty and solitude that Story affords is a great muse for writers and artists alike.
Lying just off the Bozeman Trail, Story's rich history lures travelers and American history buffs alike to sites such as Fort Phil Kearney, the Historic Wagon Box Fight, and the Fetterman Battlefield. Within easy reach by car is the Little Bighorn Battlefield, the site of General Custer's Last Stand with the Lakota Sioux, Arapaho and Cheyenne Indians in June, 1876. The deep respect for the cross-cultural relevance of America's Civil War years is impressive and awe-inspiring.
